DESCRIPTION AND MISSION

The Food Bank is a regional disaster and hunger relief network that acquires and distributes millions of pounds of donated food annually. Our food bank is one of few food banks nationwide that does not charge for the food it provides. Our food goes to soup kitchens, emergency food pantries, shelters for the abused and homeless, programs for low income children and senior citizens, and rehabilitation centers. Today, we annually distribute over 31 million pounds of food from The Food Bank to 140 agencies and 145 elementary/middle schools throughout 32 counties.

ACTIVITIES:

Service-learning students can serve as volunteers at The Food Bank, packaging food items and putting together food boxes for seniors and veterans. Students can serve multiple shifts during the week in the window of time that works best for them. Service hours will be closely monitored in addition to spot checks and evaluation periods to ensure students are able to complete their semester long service commitment. Students will be unable to serve with The Food Bank if they do not attend a mandatory orientation.
